The New Media marketplace is all about “sharing” right? Well what about the hard work you’ve done or paid for to create valuable content for your Tribe? You want people spreading the word, but not taking credit for your work. It doesn’t matter whether your business delivers services online or off-line — today EVERY business is online attracting customers (or at least should be.) You may be sharing:

• Free content you want passed along
• Original content that people pay for

In every case there are lazy hacks out there who will try to steal your content, your processes, and even your products. These mental midgets will pass along part (or all) of your work and take full credit for it. Whether it’s to market their products or actually steal your digital material to sell it without you ever seeing a dime.

This is copyright infringement, and here’s how you can protect yourself aganst being a victim . . .

A quick note regarding Google Alerts. You reduce false positives in alert results by using quotes from your work or digital fingerprints that you’ve inserted into your works to uniquely identify it.

There may be instances where getting an attorney involved is necessary, but these initial steps can save you thousands of dollars in attorney fees.
